Doug Merchant joined Hartshorne & Mehl in 2025, after working as an in-house senior litigation counsel for an insurance company, where he managed high-complexity cases.
 

Prior to moving to BC, Doug worked for the City of Calgary as in-house litigation counsel for well over 15 years. In addition to his extensive trial experience in all levels of Court in Alberta, BC, as well as at the Supreme Court of Canada, Doug worked with the Civil Resolution Tribunal as an adjudicator on small claims matters.

Outside of work, Doug is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys kayaking and spending time in Ontario’s cottage country.
