Hartshorne & Mehl: Legal Administrative Assistant Position Available

We are currently seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to join our team. This is a full time, permanent position with a competitive benefits and compensation package. This is your opportunity to join an enthusiastic and hard-working team environment working directly with a Lawyer. Legal Administrative Assistant daily duties, under the guidance of a Lawyer and or Paralegal, include:

  •  Drafting and proofreading correspondence and standard BC Supreme Court forms;

  •  Maintaining a bring forward system, including determining deadlines in accordance with the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and entering all mandatory deadlines into electronic format;

  •  Maintaining appropriate limitation dates where applicable;

  •  Scheduling trials, examinations for discovery, IME’s, conference calls, client meetings and independent initiation of all required correspondence associated therewith;

  •  Preparation of documents for experts;

  •  Preparation of exhibits for examination for discovery and trial;

  •  Review and preparation of bill payments as appropriate;

  •  Preparing and updating trial binders;

  •  Daily filing and photocopying;

  •  Opening files; Closing files, to include review of documents and exhibits and determination of documents to be destroyed and/or retained pursuant to Law Society Rules and Guidelines;

  •  Typing dictation/transcription; and

  •  Performing other related LAA tasks as requested by Lawyer. Your qualifications include:

  •  Successful completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant program from an accredited institution (certificate or diploma required);

  •  Excellent written and verbal English communication skills;

  •  Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), experience working with Worldox and Esilaw is an asset;

  •  Ability to multitask and prioritize work;

  •  Strong organizational skills;

  •  Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; and

  •  An understanding of the British Columbia Supreme Court Civil Rules.
